Victorian Romance

Captain Austin Landwell lives with nightmares that torture him every day. So, when he’s given the chance to redeem himself and make the family he destroyed whole again, nothing will stand in his way except...his love for a woman who has the power to breathe life back into a heart he thought was dead.

Sarah Bentley is determined to honor the promise she made her dying mistress--to protect her babe from a man who wants the child dead. But when Captain Landwell discovers her hideaway, her loyalty now becomes strangely divided between the child entrusted to her and the man who has captured her heart. She must make a tortured decision that not only might put the child in danger, but threatens to destroy her heart as well.

All that stands between eternal love and two broken hearts is one broken promise.

Broken Promise Brotherhood Series Book 2 edition by Laura Landon Romance eBooks

This is not one of the author's best books but it was an interesting story nonetheless. I think, as with More Than Willing, the indecisiveness of the h until the end of the book got a bit much to bear. The idea of the h protecting the baby of her late mistress was a good one. The H coming to find the late wife of his fellow soldier's brother as penance for not being able to save the younger brother was good too. The villain was fairly obvious I think but still it drew me in.

***Spoilers***
I absolutely didn't like that the h would choose the baby over the H though and it didn't make any sense at all. In fact the idea that she could keep the heir to an Earldom (the baby) away from his family was a bit far-fetched. Anyway I like this author and was prepared to read the story but I wish she'd let the main characters make their choices earlier on. The main thing that irked me with both this and the More than Willing story is that both h's sleep with the H's despite possible consequences and despite knowing they didn't want to be with the H's. Was this even necessary? It felt like those sex scenes had to be put in there just for the sake of having a sex scene.

Broken Promise Brotherhood Series Book 2 edition by Laura Landon Romance eBooks Reviews

Another great book by a talented author. I buy any book with her name on it. She knows how to write historical romance without being explicit.
Laura scores again! I read a variety of books and Laura's books read like a dessert! I love her story lines, can't believe that I bought this book for $.99! This has to be the best bargain from , quite a page turner. It is easily read in an evening and , nice story, entertaining to the satisfying ending. Give yourself a treat and read it tonight. One thing that I especially like about Laura's book is that every one is different & there is always enough twist to the story that "you can't put it down". Hope that she keeps these books coming! She writes much better than some better known authors. I recommend her to everyone & ordered some of her books for Christmas presents. Thanks, Laura!
Once again I am having trouble getting the correct number of stars for the book. There should be five stars on the top of the page. This story is interesting in that promises to dead people cause problems with desires of the living
.
A Laura Landon book promises a good read, characters you empathize with, and a well drawn plot. No broken promises here. You feel the love, the fear and the steely determination of the heroine as she tries to keep the baby safe. You feel the same emotions in the hero as he searches for the babe and tries to do the right thing. These two people have to find the right path, together or separately. Therein lies the tale.
Great Story!

I enjoyed this story and the story line was easy to follow. The author as always draws the reader in and allows us to experience the many emotions of her characters. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, excitement, and romance. This story is for anyone who enjoys a romance with loads of emotions and excitement. The story had a few typos but not bad. I would have preferred a different ending, I was left to wonder if Sarah ever had children of her own since they were important to her. I was wondering if there will be or is there a book for Harrison, Austin's brother. He has become a very familiar character who deserves his happily-ever-ending.
This was such a great read, a real page turner. Some surprising twists in the plot though the villain was rather predictable. (I figured it out the first time I met the character, though that didn't diminish my enjoyment.)

A few complaints, though the good points certainly out weigh the bad.

1) The repetition throughout the book.
I KNOW the heroine needs to remember this point, or loves that person, or is torn apart by this decision, just don't beat it into the ground like that! After a while I was hoping she would get conked on the head and lose her memory, just to shut up that internal tape recording! Ditto for the Hero.

I'm trying not to put spoilers in here, but this brushes the line hard, so if you don't like spoilers don't read the next paragraph.

2) Don't you think that after months of taking care of a baby, loving the baby and being there for every moment you would think about how much you missed that baby more than the day he was coming back home???

All in all it was a good book and I did enjoy it, and I have already bought Book One to read Liddy and Gabe's story...and I'm hoping there is a Book Three to cover Harry's story.
What I love most about Laura Landon's writing is that from the moment you read the first line she draws you into her world. She creates a vivid image of another time and her characters come to life before you. You feel every emotion and at times your heart is left raw with pain as two souls struggle to find happiness. You cry when you learn of their despair and sacrifices and you rejoice when love finally overcomes all. This is a great follow up in her Brotherhood series where once again old characters are reunited with new. Austin and Sarah's relationship is filled with wonderful moments and you will remember them long after the last page is turned. The only regret is that you will want more because it is always hard to say good bye to characters that touch the heart. It's like having a close friend move away knowing you will never see them again. Thankfully though you can always reread the story. Well done Ms. Landon and thank you for creating a world that one can escape life's pressures for just a moment.
